The Acropolis Museum celebrates its birthday with a reduced ticket

The entrance ticket to the showrooms will be reduced throughout its opening hours, from 8:00 am. until 4:00 p.m.

On the occasion of his birthday Acropolis Museumtoday, Monday 20 June 2022, the entrance ticket in the exhibition spaces will be reduced (5 euros) throughout its opening hours, from 8:00 am. until 4:00 p.m. At 3:00 pm, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy music from the Woodwind Quintet of the Athens State Orchestra on the ground floor of the Museum.

Alongside, from 20 June 2022 until 8 January 2023the Acropolis Museum presents the exhibition action “The deeds of Athens. Panathinaikos amphorae from Toronto, Canada to the homeland “, with two exceptional art vessels, made in Attica 2,500 thousand years ago.

These are Panathinaikos amphorae, the oil-filled vases that were awarded as prizes to the winners of the games of the celebration of the Great Panathinaikos. On one side they are decorated in the form of Athena Promachos and on the other with scenes related to the games for which they were given as prizes.

The amphorae from the Royal Museum of Ontario, located in the Parthenon Hall, converse with the frieze of the great temple, in which Pheidias and his associates masterfully carved the procession of the Panathenaic feast.

This presentation at the Museum is a parallel action with the Museum of Ontario, where the Acropolis Daughter 670 is on display since March 2022. The action is organized in the context of cultural exchanges between the Acropolis Museum and other major museums abroad, contributing to the strengthening of bonds of friendship between peoples.

As part of the above action, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 7 pm, the Museum will host in the amphitheater a lecture by the director of the Royal Museum of Ontario, Josh Basseches, on “ROM Immortal: Transforming Museum Experiences for the 21st Century”.
