Post lies when claiming that Anitta was booed after criticizing Bolsonaro

by

The video that circulates on social networks showing an angry singer after being cursed and being the target of objects thrown on stage is misleading. The content claims that the artist is the Brazilian Anitta and that she would have been the target of public irritation for having spoken ill of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

A survey carried out by Projeto Comprova shows that the video was recorded in May of this year, in Spain, during a performance by singer La Zowi, who had a disagreement with the audience. The artist cursed the audience and then threw an object at festivalgoers. In Spanish news from the period it is possible to view the original video, as well as information about the event. There is no relationship with Anitta or with politics in Brazil.

Scope of publication

Comprova investigates the most far-reaching suspicious content on social networks. As of June 21, the fake post has had nearly 36,000 likes on TikTok and has been shared over 6,100 times.

what does the author say

As the TikTok platform restricts direct message contact only between people who follow each other, interaction with the author of the content was done via Instagram. Comprova did not receive a response until the completion of this verification.

How do we check

Based on Google searches, the report had access to website content with descriptions of La Zowi’s video. The research also provided access to news and videos from the period in which the show was held.

The presentation

Some Spanish websites reported La Zowi’s performance. The Ideal portal highlighted the problem between the singer and the public. The website even described what the artist would have said before “assaulting” the audience with a pedestal.

“Lighters, pens…, I already do [show] a few years ago and it never happened to me. I don’t know who lets in, I don’t know what kind of animal [quem atirou objetos]…”, the website announced.

Ideal also mentioned that the reactions on social networks were immediate and most criticized those who threw the objects against the singer.

“Artists come to town and four imbeciles kill the chance to have a festival of reference. La Zowi, we love you and we’re sorry”, says an excerpt of the profile published in the report.

The Facebook profile Jaén Noticias also published information about the episode. In the post, a video from another angle shows the moment when the artist argues with the audience and then throws the musical equipment.

The comments from followers are divided between criticism and praise for the singer.

“What a lack of civility. If you don’t like it, leave, period. But respect the girl and also respect the people who want to see her”, reads one comment.

“There’s no excuse for what they did, but the girl went down to the same level as them. [jogando o pedestal]”, interacted another follower.

Post on TikTok

The fake publication was made from a video that shows the Spanish singer Zoe Jeannau Canto, known by the artistic name of La Zowi, performing at a show on May 13, 2022, at the Auditorio de La Alameda, in the municipality of Jaén. , in Spain. At one point, spectators started throwing objects towards the artist. The motivation was not identified by Comprova, and comments on the original post suggest that those present at the event were also unable to contextualize the attacks.

In response, still on stage, the Spanish singer said that some people had thrown pens and lighters, and that this type of episode had never happened in her career. Upset by the situation, La Zowi takes what appears to be a microphone stand and throws it into the audience. Soon after, she interrupts her performance and leaves the stage. The performance was part of the Primavera Jaén festival program, whose musical proposal was to bring attractions to the young audience of the Spanish city between March and July this year.

Criticism of Bolsonaro

Still during the electoral campaign period in 2018, singer Anitta began to be asked by her fans to position herself in relation to the candidates for the presidency of the Republic that year, especially in relation to Jair Bolsonaro.

In September 2020, in an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Anitta said that she did not take a political stand when she was asked by her fans because “she would not give voice to something she did not understand”. A few months before this interview, in July, the artist had already criticized Bolsonaro’s way of dealing with the pandemic.

New clashes took place at various times in 2021. In April last year, the singer shared a video on Twitter that asked US President Joe Biden not to make a climate deal with the Brazilian leader. Anitta’s request was in line with a letter signed by about 200 Brazilian entities that argued that Bolsonaro’s policy “dismantled enforcement agencies, promoted the weakening of legislation and encouraged invasions of indigenous territories, quilombolas, traditional communities and protected areas.” In addition to the environmental issue, the singer has already criticized Bolsonaro for the number of deaths in Brazil due to covid-19 and also for the increase in prices of goods and services.

On May 3, 2022, Anitta posted on Twitter that she had a conversation with American actor Leonardo DiCaprio “about the importance of young people taking their voter registration card”. In the same tweet, she wrote: “Did you know he knows more about the importance of our Amazon rainforest than the president of Brazil?” This prompted Bolsonaro to respond to the singer’s criticism with a series of tweets.

In an interview with US magazine Interview Magazine on May 27, Anitta said, “I just want to make sure I bring attention to the important things. So if I need to fight the president, I’ll fight.” Living in Miami, in the United States, since 2021, the singer expressed in the same interview that she put her life at risk by positioning herself politically: “I went to Brazil this week and I didn’t warn people that I was there because of some threats that I was receiving”.

La Zowi

Singer La Zowi’s birth name is Zoe Jeanneau Canto. She was born in 1993 in France, in Paris, but grew up in Granada, Spain.

La Zowi is the daughter of artists. Her mother is a poet, and her father, Patrice Jean Marcel Jeanneau, a flamenco guitarist known as El Yerbita.

La Zowi’s musical genre is trap. It is a sub-genre of rap that emerged in the 2000s.

Why do we investigate?

Comprova investigates content about the pandemic, elections and public policies that reach a degree of viralization on social networks. With the presidential elections approaching, the number of misleading content on social networks to try to favor a certain candidate grows. Information of this type also damages the context of the facts and creates lies about public persons, which disrupts the electoral process.

In other verifications, Comprova has already shown that Zeca Pagodinho did not receive millions of reais under the Rouanet Law for a musical and that a video of protest against Lula at a Marina Sena concert is fake.

The investigation of this content was carried out by Portal Norte de Notícias, Nexo and imirante.com and published on June 21 by Projeto Comprova, a coalition that brings together 42 vehicles to check viral content. It was verified by Folha, Estadão, CNN Brasil, BandNews, Plural Curitiba, A Gazeta, Metrópoles, SBT, SBT News and CBN Cuiabá.
