The songwriter and performerwho turned 80 a week ago, was the oldest star to ever appear on festival of the south-west of England, which celebrated its 50th anniversary two years late due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Starting with “Can’t Buy Me Love”, McCartney entertained the crowd with songs spanning a period of almost half a century, from classic hits Beatles to “Come On to Me” from the 2018 “Egypt Station” album.
The founder of Foo Fighters Dave Grohl accompanied him to “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Band on the Run”, with the viewers not hiding their excitement.
After the “friend from the west coast of America”, the McCartney presented another surprise “from the east coast of America”: him Bruce Springsteen. The two played “Glory Days” and “I Wanna Be Your Man”. McCartney, one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century along with the late John Lennon, paid tribute to his ex-comrades during the three-hour show. He played George Harrison’s “Something” and performed a virtual duet with Lennon in “I’ve Got a Feeling.”
Grohl and Springsteen returned to the stage for the finale of “The End” from the album “Abbey Road”.
