British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, 60, was sentenced to 20 years in prison this Tuesday (28) for helping Jeffrey Epstein to abuse minors and also for participating in the sex trafficking scheme built by the American billionaire. He enlisted Maxwell’s help in attracting “particularly vulnerable” minors to his mansions in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Florida.
In December of last year, she had already been convicted of recruiting four girls for sexual encounters with Epstein, her then-boyfriend, between 1995 and 2004. Federal prosecutors portrayed Maxwell as a “sophisticated predator” who spared no effort to recruit young women. to serve as the tycoon’s sex slaves.
According to the New York Post, the judge handling the case, Alison Nathan, said the 240-month sentence was “sufficient and no more severe than necessary” for Maxwell – prosecutors were asking for between 30 and 55 years in prison. In their testimonies, four women testified that Maxwell was a key figure in the abuse cases they suffered from Epstein.
The billionaire pleaded guilty in 2008 and was indicted in July 2019. He was found dead in his New York cell a month later while awaiting his trial. Epstein had ties to America’s political elite, including Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, and his death was officially ruled a suicide.
