The small Belgian town of Dendermonde believes in colorful streets and bespoke urban interventions by street artists. And graphic designer Hans de Backer, known by his stage name Drukdoenerij, presented the “Hypecourt 9200”, a colorful basketball court that is a graphic interpretation of the 9200, the area postal code. This is how Dendermonde “entered the world map”.
Last summer the insignificant city was given extra color with five murals as part of the Viewmasters 2021 art festival. Now residents can add to the list the new “Hypecourt 9200” made in collaboration with Wham Office project curator Bart Warnier .
The “Hypecourt 9200” was created for the local youth and is expected to make the neighborhood brighter. The interesting thing, however, is the graphic approach to the city postal code: with an area of 364 square meters and over 150 liters of paint, the TK 9200 is perfectly visible from above and makes Dendermonde stand out as a colorful city. “I’m waiting for Google Maps to get over it!” confesses Drukdoenerij.
