His large sculptural installation “9 Muses” and the installation “Pombi A'” consisting of five perforated dogs will be presented for the first time in Athens
The internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Kostis Georgiou returns to Athens with his report ENIGMA 2, which will take place at the HELLENIC WORLD Culture Center of the Greater Hellenism Foundation on Piraeus Street. The exhibition will be inaugurated by September 1, 2022the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni.
The exhibition ENIGMA 2 has a retrospective character and is enriched with works from all periods of the creator’s long career as well as with the addition of recent paintings and sculptures. It is a historical exhibition consisting of 160 paintings of large and small dimensions as well as 40 sculptures.
It is the third, renewed leg of the large-scale solo exhibition with works of painting and sculpture of monumental and not only dimensions, which started in May 2019 from the TELLOGLIO FOUNDATION OF ARTS, AUTH OF THESSALONIKI and then moved to the SISMANOGLIO MEGARO in Istanbul under the auspices of the Greek Consulate !
Kostis Georgiou returns to Athens, after his solo sculpture exhibition, which was held at the BENAKIS museum on Piraeus Street in 2014. It should be noted that he has been exhibiting paintings in Athens since 2008.
Among the sculptures that will be exhibited, there will also be sculptural installations with the well-known red acrobat-dancers such as those of the METEORON project recently installed on the beach of Thessaloniki, as well as other similar sculptures of monumental proportions, installed in public spaces and squares in Europe, America and China.
Also, for the first time, his large sculptural installation will be presented in Athens “9 Muses”(modern depiction of the nine Muses of Mythology) and the installation “Pombi A” consisting of five perforated dogs. His installation “Birds in Dreamland”, which is a multifaceted 10-meter-long work consisting of 6 paintings, will also be exhibited in the museum space. Also, the new mixed media sculptures from Kostis Georgiou’s new series of works, under the title DREAMCATCHERS, will be presented for the first time. A multitude of approximately 160 paintings and 40 sculptures will map the idiosyncratic identity and long career of the creator, who have gained him international recognition and have made him immediately recognizable by the dynamic that his work emits!
In a special area of the Museum, a documentary documenting Kostis Georgiou’s journey over the last 35 years will be screened.
The central critical note of the album is signed by Haris Kambouridis, technocritic-semiologist, member of the Academia Europaea (Salzburg). As Haris Kambouridis notes: “Georgiou as an aesthetic researcher is a very special case, within the context of world art of the last 100 years, but also with a trajectory resulting from autonomous decisions and achievements. In other words, he did not rely on given norms of the time to reach an acceptable formal result, but found it himself and joined the mainstream through independence and boldness».
Kostis Georgiou is a painter and sculptor with international reach and influence. His sculptures, of monumental dimensions, are installed in Belgium (St. Elizabeth Hospital-Brussels), in China (Vanke Mall, Yia Yuan Gardens etc), in Athens (Greek riviera – Vouliagmeni, Voula, P. Faliro), in Alexandroupolis, in Luxembourg, Canada, Miami, etc.
His works can also be found in major museums, institutions and banks in Greece and abroad and he has received many awards and distinctions (Japan, Italy, Belgium, etc.). Works by Kostis Georgios have been auctioned by SOTHEBY’S – BONHAM’S – CHRISTIE’S in London.
During the inauguration, Haris Kambouridis, as well as Kostas Gouliamos, professor of the European University of Cyprus and regular member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, will address a greeting.
