Rhodes: The Hassan Bey mansion is granted to the Ministry of Culture

The Ottoman mansion Hasan Bey is located at the entrance of the medieval city of Rhodes, in front of the tourist port, on Argyrokastro Square, and has been designated a preserved medieval monument

In the ministry Culture and Sports granted by State Real Estate Company the preserved Ottoman Hassan Bey Mansion in Rhodeso, with a concession contract signed by the Minister of Culture and Sports Lina Mendoni and the CEO of ETAD, Stefanos D. Vlastos.

As announced by the Ministry of the Interior, the purpose of the concession of use is the complete restoration and renovation of the emblematic monument, with the aim of highlighting its historical and aesthetic value and its reuse as a center for the promotion of the timeless History of the city of Rhodes. The restoration project of the mansion has been joined by the Ministry of the Interior for financing from the Recovery and Resilience Fund with a budget of 1,800,000 euros and a horizon of completion of the interventions in 2025.

“The restoration of the historic Hassan Bey mansion is another important step, one more of the interventions launched by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the city of Rhodes, together with the restoration of the National Theater and the Neoclassical School, as well as the overall program of ODAP’s strategy for property management in the Medieval City The Medieval City of Rhodes, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an extremely popular destination, needs a new approach, a different strategy, which we are creating with steady steps and partnerships with competent agencies and organizations”stated among other things after the signing of the concession contract, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni.

Even more so when it comes to a historic building, such as the Hasan Bey mansion, which through our kind collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, after years of neglect, will be utilized and to be highlighted, as befits its historical and architectural value and especially the Old Town of the island of the Knights, a city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site”, said the managing director of ETAD S.A. among others. Stefanos D. Vlastos.

The Ottoman mansion Hassan Bey is located at the entrance of the medieval city of Rhodes, in front of the tourist port, on Argyrokastro Square, and has been designated a preserved medieval monument. It is a stone-built building and its construction dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, while it is a typical example of the mansions of the time which, during the period of Italian rule in the Dodecanese, underwent many modifications and additions. Today, the mansion faces significant problems, with collapses, deterioration of the wooden elements and loss of the original architectural phase, after successive interventions.
