Father Fábio de Melo undergoes tendon surgery: ‘Full of gratitude’

Father Fábio de Melo, 50, underwent surgery after having one of the tendons in his arm torn, the one on the short head of the bicep, as explained by the religious on Instagram this Sunday (28). “I lived with the partial laceration for 20 days, but it didn’t work anymore,” he said.

“In the last 10 years, I had the exquisite guidance of my dear Paulo Muzy. With him, I learned about the injury, shared the anxieties, walked the paths from within. Suddenly, the ‘only known’ started asking me: ‘and today , how are you feeling?'”, Melo said, referring to the professional specialist in sports medicine.

“From the aching arm to the pains of anxiety, everything was shared. Daily prose bonded the friendship. The acquaintance became my friend. I was on a pilgrimage, he knew. The risk of a permanent rupture terrified me, but his attention, his affection for me made me put my attention on the solution he proposed to me. It worked,” said the priest.

“Today was the day. What was on the line is whole again. I’m full of gratitude,” he concluded, thanking the family and medical staff who provided technical and emotional support for him both during surgery and preoperatively.

Fafá de Belém, Marcos Mion, Astrid Fontenelle and Evaristo Costa are among the famous who wished Melo to improve. “Our Father… your recovery will be quick and good with this wonderful team. Whatever you need, I’m here. I love you, my friend”, wrote Sabrina Sato.

At the end of October, Melo was involved in a controversy when his celibacy questioned by Elisa Lucinda. The controversy began when the actress and singer left two comments on a photo of the priest claiming not to believe in the priest’s celibacy.

“The chicken in boots”, joked Fábio de Melo in the caption of the record. “I’m finding you very ‘boy’ and seductive. I’m against celibacy. With all the respect I have for you, I don’t believe in yours. And I agree”, wrote Lucinda.

“It shouldn’t be necessary to deny one’s nature, to be celibate to be a priest. It doesn’t make sense to me,” he added. The actress’ speech divided opinions in the publication’s comments, between people supporting and disapproving of what was said.

Two days later, the artist apologized for what had happened. She stated that she reflected and perhaps it was not the best approach to the subject, because it ended up giving the wrong image, that she would be against Melo. “It wasn’t nice that I said I didn’t believe in his celibacy because it seemed like I was judging something I don’t know. I apologize for that,” he said at the time.
