Why you wake up in the middle of the night and 5 ways to get back to sleep

by

And where you were relaxed and dreamed that you were swimming in the Caribbean, suddenly the dream disappears and you struggle with the covers.

Really, the yes you wake up in the middle of the night, while you are dead tired and struggling to go back to sleep, it is torture.

And where you were relaxed and dreamed that you were swimming in the Caribbean, suddenly the dream disappears and you struggle with the covers. And the more you try to get back to sleep, the more you wake up.

And while for some it is an easy task to go back to sleep – they simply turn over and sink back in -, for some others it is difficult.

And especially, if you have something important to do the next day or if you are already very tired, then it becomes even more difficult and irritating.

Why do you wake up in the middle of the night?

According to the Sleep school, an organization made up of a group of experts who deal with sleep and treat chronic problems and insomnia, it is completely normal.

More specifically, sleep is divided into three stages (light sleep, deep sleep and REM). These stages are repeated during the night.

So between these stages your body somehow activates, to check if everything is working properly and to protect you from any dangers. So some of these times you wake up.

However, this is random. But if waking up during the night happens continuously, then there is a problem. And then definitely, you should turn to insomnia specialists.

Also, a major cause of waking up in the middle of the night is stress. When you go to sleep and you are stressed, it will dissipate somewhat. Think again, trying to sleep, thinking about the obligations that await you in the morning or doing mental calculations. Logically then, it is impossible to go back to sleep.

And of course trying hard to fall asleep has the exact opposite effect.

What to do

#1 Get out of bed

Yes, yes get up and go lie down on the sofa for a while or go to the kitchen and drink some water.

If you feel rested, then don’t try to go back to sleep. No one will punish you.

#2 Do something

Really stop thinking you should sleep. You won’t get anything out unless you can hypnotize yourself.

Read your book, a newspaper or turn on the TV if necessary. But don’t put on any movies or series with action, because it is certain that you will wake up and in the morning you will be like a melted peach. Documentaries with animals or landscapes are a good idea.

#3 Don’t open your cell phone

Whatever you do, don’t open your cell phone, tablet or computer.

Electronic devices stimulate the brain and then you will wake up for good. Their only use could be limited to special applications that help you fall asleep.

#4 Meditate

If you are a yogi or generally have some basic training, then meditate.

You know the way better than we do, so just do what you know best.

#5 Let go

If none of the above works, then just accept that you won’t sleep and just go for it.

Find a posture that relaxes you, sink into your pillows and don’t think about anything.
