Karl Lagerfeld: “Golden” auction for his designs

by

“Lagerfeld was a fashion genius,” said the auctioneer.

The auction turned out to be golden with fashion sketches of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld (Karl Lagerfeld), which sold for nearly three times their estimate at Sotheby’s in Paris, according to the Guardian.

THE auction it went for €350,406 with the most expensive sketch being a colorful one for French fashion house Chloé designed in the early 1970s. It was sold for 40,320 euros. The oldest was a folder of 25 sketches from 1969, also for Chloé, which fetched €32,760.

The auctioneer, Caroline Lescure emphasized that it was “the paper man, he kept everything – that was his record.’ And it continues: “Lagerfeld was a fashion genius. He spent many years at Chloé and Chanel, and always wanted to take a step forward. We see this vision in his sketches.”

The iconic fashion designer died after a battle with pancreatic cancer, aged 85, in February 2019 at the American Hospital in Paris, leaving a huge void in the fashion industry even today.

The esteemed fashion editor Susie Menkes (Suzy Menkes), in an Instagram post after the Chanel haute couture show, wrote: “Two words must be said about the Chanel Haute Couture show … Karl Lagerfeld. Without his influence the clothes looked boring.”
