Roberto Carlos on ‘Cala a boca!’ to fan: ‘He left by accident’

by

It was someone else. The smiling and bubbly (as far as possible) Roberto Carlos, who performed on the night of this Wednesday (20), at the Qualistage concert hall, in Rio, had no recollection of what happened on that same stage exactly a week ago. The singer who told a fan to shut up, was irritated by the audience’s screams and distributed the roses at the end of the show with evident ill will – this guy was not him, the King wanted to explain in this new presentation.

“I want to talk about something… After what happened last week, for those who come to pick up the roses, wait for the song “Jesus Christ” to finish. ). He left by accident, see?! My business is not talking, it’s singing. I want to sing saying everything I feel”, he said, giving those half-crooked laughs that make his imitators happy.

In addition to being annoyed with the fact that the previous show was on the 13th, Roberto would have been even more stressed that day with the crowd of fans before the hour on the edge of the stage. Eager for the roses that he throws at the end of the show, they ended up anticipating and forming a cake of almost hysterical people at the feet of the “King”.

It’s always like this: Roberto throws the flowers after “Jesus Christ”, which follows on from “How Great is My Love for You”. Never change. But on the 13th, another song (“Cavalgada”) was included by surprise in the sequel and his fans lost the reference. Result: they went to the front of the stage ahead of time, which took the systematic Roberto off his feet.

“This is a very clear sign that it’s time to change something,” says writer and researcher Paulo Cesar de Araújo, author of Roberto’s unauthorized biography. “The fans know exactly what’s going to happen, what songs he’s going to sing, and in what order,” he says. “So everyone feels free to scream when it’s close to picking up the roses.” For Araújo, if the singer changed the setlist, the audience would watch the show with more attention and less hysteria. “He should even think about stopping tossing the flowers, the gesture is already too mechanical,” he suggests.
