Eduardo Costa is denounced for embezzlement by the Public Ministry of Minas

The Public Ministry of Minas Gerais denounced the singer Eduardo Costa, 42, for embezzlement in the sale of a property built on a land of environmental preservation in Capitólio (MG). When contacted, the artist’s advisors said that he will not comment on the matter.

The Minas Gerais Court of Justice stated that the complaint was distributed on Monday (29), but has not yet been analyzed by the judge.

The couple who bought the property, located in the resort of Escarpas do Lago, in Capitólio, southern Minas Gerais, said that when trying to register the property, they were informed that there were two lawsuits about it: a public civil action by the Federal Public Ministry and a lawsuit of repossession because the house is partially built in a permanent preservation area belonging to Furnas, owner of a dam in the region.

According to the MPF, a total of 1,122.80 m² of land, which includes a garden, swimming pool, boat garage, lounge and balcony, are in the protection area. The land has a total of about 4,000 m². The denunciation of the civil action was filed in October 2017. The reintegration action was filed by Furnas in 2012.

The couple of new owners claimed that they did not know about the lawsuits involving the property. Eduardo Costa said that he was aware that part of the house was on illegal land when he bought it and that he notified the new owners before the sale was completed.

In 2018, when asked about the matter, Costa denied any type of irregularity. “I would never hurt anyone, it’s not in my character to do that.”

Costa’s house in Capitólio was sold for between R$6.5 million and R$7 million. In exchange, the countryman received a property in Belo Horizonte valued at R$9 million. To make up for the difference, Costa gave the couple a Ferrari, a speedboat and a watercraft.
