The guidelines are based on a survey of 2,000 people in the UK
To start your day right, get out of bed at 7:12 and exercise for exactly 21 minutes, writes the “Daily Mail”. To feel refreshed and not grumpy, spend ten minutes in the shower and then spend 18 minutes on breakfast.
The specific guidelines come from a survey of 2,000 people in the UK, with the results analyzed by the mathematical Dr. Anne-Marie Imafindonpresident-elect of the British Scientific Association, who developed a formula for the best morning routine.
The average of responses shows that the optimal shower time is ten minutes, with people preferring eight hours in bed, waking up at 6:44am, getting up at 7:12am and having breakfast at 7:25am.
It may come as no surprise to a cereal company’s research that formula is most affected by how much time we spend eating breakfast. Almost two-thirds of people say this is important to getting ready for the day, with 18 minutes being the average time at the breakfast table.
To figure out if your routine will help put you in a good mood, double the time you spend on breakfast, then add the minutes you spend exercising and showering. Now calculate the difference between the time you slept and the optimal eight hours – 1.5, for example, if you slept 6.5 hours – and the difference in hours – between the time you got up and 7:12 – if you got up at 8:12.
The total of minutes for breakfast (doubled), exercise and shower is divided by the sum based on sleeping and waking hours. Now add the minutes you spend doing things like reading the newspaper or doing the crossword puzzle after first dividing that number by two. The number you end up with should be greater than 37 if you have the best morning routine.
The survey, which was commissioned by Special K Crunchy Oat Granola, found that 29% of people “regularly wake up on the wrong side of the bed” and are groggy by 11am.
