Ministry of Health: The unsuitable beaches of Attica for swimming – The circular

The unsuitable shores of Lakanopedi for swimming this year, the Ministry of Health published. It is clarified that the decision is dynamic, and is modified on a case-by-case basis depending on the evolving conditions of the swimming beaches.

For the cases of unsuitability of the coasts for swimming, the need for marking is highlighted by those in charge of the coasts, under the responsibility of the Local Government, so that, after being informed by the competent Directorates of Environmental Hygiene and Sanitary Control, they can place prohibition signs in the places deemed unsuitable for swimming .

Port Authorities are requested for surveillance of these points, so that the signs are placed in appropriate places and are not damaged.

It is recalled the need to intensify both the systematic sampling of bathing waters, as well as the monitoring of potential sources of pollution (liquid waste treatment facilities, etc.) with the aim of sanitizing the environment and safeguarding Public Health.

In detail, the circular states the following:

It is forbidden to swim in the sea waters of the regions of the Attica Region, in which the quality characteristics of the existing bathing water legislation are not met, as they are specifically mentioned below:

To everything the ports, permanent moorings, shipyards and ship breaking yards.
Throughout the area from the port of Piraeus to and Perama.
Throughout the Skaramanga area up to Aspropyrgos beach.
In Skafaki Ports, Stavrou tis Aktis Themistokleous, in the harbor of the Cadet School and 100 meters on either side of the MIRAMARE Center.
In the area from the northern end of Mikrolimanos to the Xirotagaros coast (marina boundary).
On the left point of the coast “EDEN” near “EDEM” restaurant and 100 meters on either side of the mouth of the Picrodafni stream.
In a zone of 50 meters on either side of the outlets of all storm drains.
In a zone of 200 meters on either side of the mouths of the outlet of the pipelines of biological wastewater treatment facilities, and of any other similar outlet, in accordance with the prefectural decisions on determining the recipient, where local prohibition signs are placed or the local health authorities propose the placement of relevant markings.
In the area of ​​the Shipyards and the port of Lavrio Bay up to PPC with the exception of the area starting from the Helmi coast and continuing to the Thorikou area (Theatre Coast).
At Seamstress along the entire length of the outer side of the leeward pier of the harbor.
In a zone of 200 meters from the discharge points of the pipelines of the biological purification facilities, which are located in the areas of Nea Makris and Marathon and in particular the THALA camps, and the Aviation – THAA camps. The ban does not include the swimming beach of KEDA/Z.
In his area Asopou river 200 meters on either side of its estuary.
