Attorneys for the Duchess made their case in documents recently filed in Florida for their legal battle
Meghan Markle has insisted it’s a “feeling” rather than a “fact” that she grew up as an only child after being accused by her half-sister Samantha of lying about her upbringing, according to the Daily Mail.
Attorneys for the Duchess developed their arguments in documents recently filed in Florida about their legal battle. Samantha is suing her Megan for allegedly peddling a false story about what she claimed in her infamous Oprah interview and about comments in Finding Freedom, the book written by her close friend Omid Scobie.
Markle’s lawyers are rejecting Samantha’s claim that it was dishonest for Meghan to claim she was raised as an only child, arguing that she feels that way, despite technically having two other siblings.
In a court document, Samantha, the daughter of Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, claims the Duchess of Sussex has launched a “premeditated campaign to destroy” her and her father’s reputations. He claims Meghan tried to destroy their credibility so they “couldn’t intervene or contradict the false narrative and fairy tale life story she concocted for herself.
He also claims that Meghan lied when she said that she essentially grew up on her own and that from the age of 13 she had to work to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Samantha, 57, launched an attack on her sister’s friend and biographer, Omid Scobie, as he branded Finding Freedom “a book full of lies”.
Megan and Samantha last saw each other in 2008, but in recent years have clashed over their childhood versions. Samantha’s difficult relationship with Meghan “exploded” in the public after the announcement of Meghan Markle’s engagement to Prince Harry in 2017.
