Full Moon at the National Archaeological Museum on Friday 12 August

This year’s action is dedicated to the secrets of antiquity.

Her Friday, August 12 the National Archaeological Museum will welcome the most beautiful full moon of the year with free entry from 20:00 to 23:30. Visitors to the Museum will have the rare opportunity to take a night tour of the rooms with the masterpieces of antiquity.

This year’s action of the Museum is dedicated to the secrets of antiquity. From 20:30 onwards, visitors’ gazes and footsteps will be led to selected exhibits of the National Archaeological Museum’s permanent and periodical exhibitions, in exciting and unexpected journeys through time, with stories that will be unfolded by the following storytellers:

• Dr. Anna Vassiliki Karapanagiotis, director of the National Archaeological Museum: Return to the homeland. Stories of the repatriation of antiquities (Room 13), start times for stories: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Manolis Petrakis, archaeologist: A night in Eleusis (No. 15). Storytelling times: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Despina Ignatiadou, head of the Sculpture Collection Department: ‘Artemis. From the virgin huntress of the Greeks to the Ephesian goddess of Ionia (No. 21). Storytelling times: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Vanda Papaefthymiou, curator of the Sculpture Collection Department: Panas, the god of mountains and flocks (Room 34). Storytelling times: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Anna Iakovidou, archaeologist-museologist and Lampros Beroukas, computer engineer: The mysteries of the Mechanism of Antikythera (No. 38), Start times of narrations: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Dimitra Kriga, archaeologist: The city in the shadow of the volcano. Akrotiri Santorini (Room 48). Storytelling times: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Georgios Kavadias, head of the Department of Vessel Collections, Metalwork and Small Crafts: Night stories of war (Room 55). Storytelling times: 20:30 and 21:30.

• Dr. Konstantinos Paschalidis, curator of the Department of Prehistoric, Egyptian, Cypriot and Oriental Antiquities Collections: Historical walk around the National Archaeological Museum. Unknown incidents and emblematic moments of History. Meeting point on the marble staircase of the facade of the Museum. Start time: 21:00.

It is noted that the starting time of guest entry (with free entry) is at 20:00 and the last time of guest entry at 23:30. The exhibition spaces of the Museum will be open until 23:45.
