Cardi B is Playboy’s new creative director and summons creators

Rapper Cardi B, 29, shared with fans on social media that she is Playboy’s first resident creative director this Thursday (2). After the news, the The company’s shares reversed losses and rose as much as 9.7%, according to Bloomberg.

“I’m Playboy’s first resident creative director! What a dream! I’m starting the party as founding creative director and founding member of Centerfold, the new platform led by Playboy creators. I’m so excited about everything to come,” he tweeted the artist.

According to Bloomberg, the artist will provide artistic direction in areas such as merchandising and digital publishing. Cardi B will also serve as founding creative director and founding member of Centerfold, a site aimed at creators that is due to launch later this month.

The partnership highlights Playboy’s efforts to revive a brand that was once an influential name among men’s magazines and in culture. Aiming to expand its consumer-focused business, the agreement with Cardi B will include collections of fashion and sexual wellness products from co-branded brands.

In a statement, the singer said she feels connected to Playboy. “It really is the original platform for uncensored creativity and I’m inspired by its incredible legacy of striving for personal freedom. I already have so many ideas – I can’t wait!”

Cardi B said he wants creators to feel safe to express themselves “freely and without filters”. She called on people who are doing “bold, revolutionary and really culture-changing things” to join the effort.
