Actress Mariska Hargitay, 57 star of the series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” diplomatically asked a man to stop singing during the crime series shoot in New York’s Washington Square Park.
A 30-second video shared on social media shows the actress negotiating with the artist to stop singing when they start recording. “Your singing is beautiful, but we’re just trying to make the recording,” Hargitay told the man politely, who was standing away from the cameras. “Is it okay if you don’t sing when we say ‘action’?” he asked.
The artist’s response is not audible in the video, but the actress’s reaction made it clear that he agreed. “We’ll make a deal. I’ll be happy to do it for you, as we’re filming, so [o canto] does not work for the scene. Alright? I’ll come back here,” she promised.
Showrunner Warren Leight exclusively told The Post that although he wasn’t on set that day, he spoke with Hargitay and a producer who was there. After the crew members couldn’t get the man to stop singing, Hargitay walked over, praised his “beautiful voice” and kindly asked that he could serenade him until they had to shoot another scene.
“He said, ‘Who are you?’ ” Leight said, laughing as he retold Hargitay’s story. “And she said, ‘Well, I’m on the show.’ And he said, ‘Are you on the show?’ She says, “Yes, actually, I am,” says Leight
“I think he realized something was up when everyone started filming her talking to him,” added Leight. “He looked around and said, ‘Are you famous?’ And she said, ‘Well, yeah, I guess so,'” said showrunner Warren Leight.
