Super full moon and Perseids in the sky today – The areas with free entry

by

The moon will again be closer to Earth than usual and thus appear somewhat larger and brighter, blotting out all but the brightest shooting stars.

Tonight will be a magical night, as the super full moon of August will rise in the sky. Tonight, the spectacular summer shower of shooting stars, the conquering Perseids, also culminates. Observing them will be difficult due to the super full moon.

The moon will again be closer to Earth than usual (the full moon will almost coincide with the perigee of the Moon) and thus will appear somewhat larger and brighter, “blowing out” many “shooting stars”, except for the brightest ones.

Free entry and events in archaeological sites, monuments and museums

More than 100 archaeological sites, historical sites, museums and monuments across the country welcome the public tonight under the light of the full moon. These are the events organized for another year by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in the context of the August Full Moon (August 12), with free entry for the public, in selected archaeological sites, museums, historical sites and monuments.

It is recalled that events will take place in 50 archaeological sites and museums, while 55 will remain open to the public with free entry. This year’s event will be framed by events on August 11, as well as on August 13, 19, 20 and 27. The program mainly includes concerts, but also theater and dance performances, poetry evenings, screenings, stargazing and guided tours, many of which are carried out in collaboration with the local government and local clubs.

This year, one hundred years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the event is dedicated to the event of the Exodus of Hellenism from Asia Minor and the mark it left on the collective memory.
