Metallica, Mariah Carey and the Jonas Brothers will headline the big concert in New York’s Central Park for the 10th anniversary of the Global Citizen Festival organized by the international non-profit organization fighting extreme poverty on September 24.

On the same day, another concert will take place in Accra, Ghana, with Usher, SZA and HER

The day will be less of a celebration and more of a call to action to immediately address many international crises, said Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans. “We are actually at a critical turning point where the pandemic has pushed nearly 100 million people into extreme poverty and now Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has made the situation much worse,” he said. “Up to 323 million people now face acute hunger. And if we don’t take urgent action now, more than 200 million people are likely to sink into extreme poverty by November, bringing the total number of people living in extreme poverty to over a billion people.”

It should be noted that international organizations count as people in conditions of extreme poverty those who get 1.9 dollars a day.

“Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who will emcee the event in Central Park, said “Global Citizen” has always encouraged people to use their voices to persuade world leaders and decision makers to take action against hunger and poverty. However, the need to focus on these issues is now even more pressing.

If we’re going to do something about this, then we need urgent mobilization,” Chopra Jonas told The Associated Press. “So just seeing all these people from different walks of life, different professions – coming together, motivated to really make change now in an urgent way – is so inspiring».

Pop star Charlie Puth, Latina actress Rosalia, country star Mickey Guyton and the Italian band MÃ¥neskin will also perform in Central Park, according to the AP. Admission will be free.
