Chicago: Teens made a mosaic of cereal packages and broke a Guinness record, to raise money for Ukraine

The cereal will go to a local food bank, and donors have so far contributed about $15,000 to the initiative.

Teenagers in Chicagostocked with boxes of breakfast cereal created one yesterday giant mosaicwhich brought down global Guinness recordand in the process of building it they raised money as aid for Ukraine.

Using approximately 5,000 cereal packages donated by Kellogg’s, members of the Chicago Kids United for Ukraine group created a giant cereal mosaic on the floor of Wintrust Financial Corporation’s Grand Banking Hall in downtown Chicago.

They used yellow Corn Pops and blue Rice Krispies packages to represent the Ukrainian flag.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February and the war there is raging.

“We wanted to wake people up about Ukraine. So we decided to break a record that’s for a good cause,” says 15-year-old Michael Kocher.

The cereal will go to a local food bank, and donors have so far contributed about $15,000 to the initiative.

“It’s great because we help globally as well as locally,” Kocher says.
