The fifteenth of August for the Pontians is an important holiday. This year the Pontic Associations honor and celebrate her Saint Mary of Soumela with a series of events.
Here is the schedule shared by the Australian Federation of Pontic Clubs:
FRIDAY 19 AUGUST 2022
Bassoon – Pontic evening with a rich Pontic music program by local musicians and the presentation of the small dance group of the “Pontiac Estia”. Start time 7pm, at Pontiac Hestia premises (540 Sydney Rd, Brunswick, Vic).
SATURDAY 20 AUGUST 2022
Parakath – a rich festive program with a special appearance by the artist Christos Xanthopoulos from Greece and delicious food. Start time 7pm, at the Whittlesea Pontian Association building ‘Panagia Sumela’ (18 Spring St, Thomastown, Vic).
SATURDAY 20 AUGUST 2022 – South Australia
Dance – a night full of revelry. Presentation of the dance groups of the Pontic Brotherhood of “St. George” (Western Australia) and the participation of renowned artists from Perth and Melbourne. Start time 7pm, at the ‘Alexander the Great’ building (49 Homer St, Inglewood, WA).
SUNDAY, AUGUST 21, 2022
Panigiri – A day full of music, tradition, feasting just like on the ‘Unforgettable Lake’. Presentation of dance groups of the parish and lots of fun. Start time 1pm, at Pontiac Hestia premises (540 Sydney Rd, Brunswick, Vic). Free entrance.
