Regina Duarte raises the tone, attacks artists and repeats a 2002 phrase: ‘I’m afraid’

Forget -now it seems that for good- Brazil’s sweetheart. Regina Duarte raised the tone and, if from time to time she still posts sweet and candid images and messages on her networks, in recent days the former secretary of Culture of Jair Bolsonaro has decided to go on the attack.

Her main target is her professional colleagues, the same ones who ignored her in a recent theatrical performance in São Paulo. Regina, it seems, accused the coup.

“Keep it!”, she urges, marking the profiles of Guilherme Fiúza and Carla Zambelli (PL-SP). Regina made the comment when sharing a post by the deputy in which she and the journalist criticize the “pro-letter artists”, in reference to the letter in defense of democracy.

Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, Fernanda Montenegro, Arnaldo Antunes, Chico Buarque, Anitta, Camila Pitanga, Antônio Fagundes, Gal Costa: the list is long and varied, but because they signed and read excerpts from the “letter”, they all enter on the list of Regina’s new enemies and are criticized by her at the beginning of her post. “How ashamed I am of this ‘take it!’, she wrote.

The actress, however, avoids taking responsibility for the attacks on herself and chooses to repost the content of Bolsonaro’s allies. “Knock it up, patriots, my stupid pluralism prevents me from hitting the category no matter how outraged I am!”, she posted. She ends the text in which she talks about democracy (“What democracy does this ‘take’ want? Bolsonaro is an example for the whole world”) with the following sentence: “As in 2002, I’M AFRAID”. Also, in capital letters.

Regina broke her more than four-decade contract with Globo to take over the Secretary of Culture for two and a half months, between March and May 2020, after weeks of frying. Even though she was away and with the (unfulfilled) promise of taking another government position, she remains faithful to the president and aligned with the Bolsonarista discourse. In one of her recent posts, she praised the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes: “PG is the man!”.
