Announced the end of his career Deson Thomas!

At 34, the American forward who passed through our country to wear the Panathinaikos jersey, made it known through a post on social media that he was hanging his basketball shoes.

Thomas fought with the “Greens” in the two years 2018-2020winning the championship and cup and with Panathinaikos being the only team of his career in which he stayed more than a year!

He made his first departure basketball steps in France with Nader, and then competed in Barcelona, Austin Spurs, Efes and Maccabi Tel Aviv, before coming to Panathinaikos. He then played for a while in Japan, before returning to Europe for Bayern, Olympia Milan and Badalona, closing his career in Villerban.

Deson Thomas’ post:

“Basketball was more than a game for me – it was my lifestyle, my foundation and my way forward. I didn’t play this game just for me. I played it for my family, for the future I wanted to build. Growing up, things were not always easy, but the lessons I learned through the struggle taught me how to work hard, to remain disciplined and never to consider opportunities.

Every big night in the gym, every morning workout, every ounce of energy I gave in this game had one purpose. I wanted to show what was possible through dedication and wanted to bring my family to a better position than we started. Basketball gave me the opportunity to do that. It caused me, prompted me to go beyond my limits and shaped me with someone who could manage not only the victories but also the failures.

I am proud of the journey – the sacrifices, the battles, the moments of doubt that have turned into times of evolution. In all of this, I stayed loyal to who I am and carried my family with me at every step. This is what makes this game so special. He gave me more than victories and memories. He gave me the opportunity to provide, inspire and grow.

Now, as I move away, I do it with gratitude. Lessons will always stay with me – the durability, the love of something greater than me. This is not the end of my story, just the end of a chapter that changed my life forever.

Thanks, basketball, for everything ».
