Kay will be played by Jon Berndahl in the upcoming series, which premieres on September 9
THE Julian Kay gets a second chance in the ‘American Gigolo’ remake. Kay, played by Richard Gere in the original 1980 film, will be played by John Berndahl in the upcoming series premiering on September 9.
In the new trailer released for the series, Kay, a male escort, is released after serving 15 years in prison after being convicted of wrongful death in the 1980 film.
The trailer shows brief flashbacks to Kay’s life and features Rosie O’Donnell as Detective Sunday who tells Kay that “you’re a free man.”
In the next scene, Kay in a gym bag meets Michelle, played by Lauren Hutton in the original film and will be played by Gretchen Mol in the upcoming series, and tells her: “I didn’t hurt that girl, you were right.” “You can’t be here,” Michelle replies. “I know, I understand,” Michelle says before running to hug her old partner. She then pushes him away and tells him to “stay away”.
According to a description of the series from Showtime, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, “as Julian struggles to reconcile the work he did in the past with the man he is today, Detective Sandy searches for the truth about the murder that sent him to prison all this over the years, revealing a much larger conspiracy along the way.”
