It was designed to accommodate up to 10 people while being connected to the earth

Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto has released plans for a disc-shaped villa with a vegetated roof to be built on Ishigaki Island in the Okinawan archipelago for hotel group Not A Hotel. . The startup describes itself as “not a hotel, but a life,” and already many of its accommodations are springing up across Japan.

‘Not A Hotel Ishigaki’ was designed to accommodate up to 10 people while being ‘connected to the earth’. “The architectural structure, which has a blurred boundary between interior and exterior, is connected to the land. The house is open inside and outside and you can spend moments of relaxation while all day long you will feel the comfort of nature,” said Fujimoto’s architectural office.

The group markets its properties as holiday villas for rent rather than traditional hotel accommodation, noting that the average second home owner spends twenty days in their holiday home each year. According to the planning, “Not A Hotel Ishigaki” will start accepting reservations in May 2023.
