The results of the autopsies of the veterinarian of ARKTOUROS, Dr. Sylvias Kalogeropoulou, in order for the agency to take the necessary actions according to the law, as noted by the Ministry of the Environment
The incidents of illegal killing of three bears in Florina in the last two months that became known yesterday, are being investigated by the Services of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, following the order of the Deputy Minister, Giorgos Amyras.
According to the official data of the Forestry Directorate of Florina, three incidents have been recorded:
1st: On June 21, a dead bear was found in advanced decay in the river bed in the area of T.K. Agripidias.
2nd: On August 11, a dead bear was found in the area of T.K. Agripidias.
3rd: On August 12, a dead bear was found in advanced decay in the stream in the area of T.K. Skleithrou.
The Forestry Directorate of Florina from the first moment proceeded with the following actions:
● In all three cases, an autopsy was performed on the sites by the Direct Intervention Team of the Florina Forestry Directorate, the Direct Intervention Team of ARKTOUROS and the Municipality of Amyntaio.
● The results of the autopsies of the veterinarian of ARKTOUROS, Dr. Sylvias Kalogeropoulou, in order for the agency to carry out the actions required by law, such as the necessary investigative acts.
● It is in direct cooperation with ARKTOUROS and EL.AS. for the better investigation of the case.
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy George Amyras, said: “This is a heinous crime against biodiversity. The services of the Ministry are in direct cooperation with EL.AS. to clarify the cases. We will do everything in our power to protect the mammal’s population, always in cooperation with ARKTOUROS”.
The general director of ARKTOUROS, Dr. Alexandros Karamanlidis, said: “The unique biodiversity of Greece is a common good of all Greeks and it is the duty of all of us to protect it! In relation to the heinous crime in Florina and the protection of the brown bear in Greece in general, ARKTOUROS requests:
a) the immediate clarification of the case and the exemplary punishment of the guilty party,
b) the immediate institutionalization of the National Action Plan for the brown bear,
c) the full and effective implementation of the RMA for the approach of bears in residential areas. To hand over to our children a place better than we found it!”.
