Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Lauren: The Most Amazing…JLO Wedding Day “Union”

The designer and singer grew up in New York’s Bronx and both embody the American Dream

Jennifer Lopez revealed the three dresses she wore to her second wedding to Ben Affleck in her official newsletter.

The first dress, worn during the 45-minute ceremony, features a high neck and a handmade ruffled skirt. The singer then changed into a plunging neckline dress with pearls. And for the evening’s finale, she wore a third gown with a mermaid silhouette, embellished with Swarovski crystals on the back and neckline. They were all designed by the same person: Ralph Lauren.

The designer and the singer, as “El Pais” writes, grew up in the Bronx district of New York and both embody the American dream. Ralph Lauren is the son of Jewish immigrants, and as a child all he wanted was to have his own closet where he could arrange his shoes, as he says in the 2019 HBO documentary “Very Ralph.”

His design flair, inspired by the style of movie stars such as Marlon Brandon and Paul Newman, took him from selling ties to leading a fashion empire.

Jennifer Lopez, or JLO, as she is also known professionally, has worn Ralph Lauren designs on more than one occasion, notably at the 2019 CFDA Awards, where she received the Fashion Icon Award, and at the 2021 Met Gala. But Lopez’s decision to wear Ralph Lauren on her wedding day has raised some questions, considering the scandals the brand has faced and its association with wealthy white Americans.

The designer changed his Jewish surname Lifshitz to Lauren to make it sound more American, and the brand, especially Polo, was accused of racial discrimination. In the 2000s, Lauren tried to make some changes, with various campaigns that would help the company. However, the designer once again found himself at the center of controversy when former first lady Melania Trump wore one of his designs to Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Despite the backlash, JLO chose to wear Ralph Lauren on her second wedding day on August 21. The singer’s endorsement is a sign that the designer has managed to distance himself from accusations of “classism” and racism and come closer to the concept of the American dream, which they both embody.
