‘Pantanal’: Aline Borges reveals that Zuleica’s plot will have a twist in the next chapters

by

Although many people bet that Bruno Luperi will follow the central idea of his grandfather, Benedito Ruy Barbosa, and keep the outcome of several subplots of “Pantanal”, the truth is that he has some cards up his sleeve. One of them is the end of Zuleica, played by Aline Borges.

in conversation with the F5, She says that there’s a good surprise coming, with a twist of her character, a nurse who left her career and the city where she lived with her three children to live in the Pantanal next to Tenório (Murilo Benício). She maintained the relationship even after learning that he had another family—or rather, even after discovering that “the other” was her.

Zuleica is no longer the independent woman at the beginning of the plot to become a polite and not very vain housewife. She earned the nickname “Bruaca 2”, in reference to the character of Isabel Teixeira, her “rival” in the love dispute. Aline guarantees that everything will change, but she doesn’t go into details to avoid spoilers.

“I can only say that the author was very generous with this woman’s story, and thought about valuing and putting this black woman in the place she really deserves to be in this country”. At 47 years of age and 27 years of career, Aline celebrates her outstanding role. “I’ve never had such a large volume of scenes, I’m working with great actors and learning all the time”, she celebrates.

What happened to that independent woman in the soap opera? Why is she being called Bruaca?

When I started to read the script, I had difficulty understanding how she was going to “get drunk” in the Pantanal. I was a little angry and wanted to defend her! (laughs) But, little by little, I came to understand how important it was to show this duality. Nobody is one thing. Zuleica is an empathetic, generous, intelligent, independent woman, but she has her weaknesses. It was these weaknesses that led her to make the wrong choices in the past. I think she is learning on the basis of suffering.

A controversial topic linked to Zuleica’s trajectory is her relationship outside of a traditional marriage.

In addition to living in a racist country, we live in an extremely sexist country, and the place that Zuleica occupies in this relationship is very poorly regarded by society: the other. It’s hard to defend it (laughs), but the worst thing is that having a parallel family was never new, right? What I see is the difficulty of not judging the other. People judge all the time and they can’t have empathy to understand the reasons that made her put herself in that place.

She is suffering now on the farm…

(Interrupting) Unfortunately, she will continue to suffer. She will suffer like hell in the next chapters until she understands that everything is a reflection of bad choices made in the past. That story that everyone gets what they deserve is true. She’s going to find that out now.

Is Zuleica your most challenging role?

She is the greatest character in my life. I participated in a police series called “A Lei e o Crime”, in 2009 on Record, and it was the great divide in my career, but Zuleica is in this place of challenge. I’ve never had such a big scene volume. I’m working with great actors and I’m learning all the time.

Have you recorded all your participation?

I haven’t recorded everything yet. We are in the final stretch and the heart is already tight.

Is there any chance of a turnaround for your character?

Yes, it will. Thank the Goddesses! (laughs). I can’t give spoilers, but what I can say is that the author was very generous with this woman’s story and he thought of valuing and putting this black woman in the place she really deserves to be in this country. It will be incredible.

With just over a month to go before the presidential elections, how do you see the political moment that Brazil is going through?

We live in a very difficult time and people are nervous. Everyone is very drained and sucked into hateful energy. I think it’s bad. And, more than ever, I seek to find my axis and connect with the energy of light, hope and love. Whatever opinion you give or if you disagree with the other, attacks happen. Lack of respect. I’m very cautious.

Caution?

Yup. I am cautious because I believe that the artist has a commitment to his speech and to his voice within a society. My voice will have a weight for the people who admire me and it is necessary to have responsibility. I always try to be cautious and responsible.
