The late composer plays the piano and sings with his mother, Aspasia
September marks one year since the death of Mikis Theodorakis. “K” presents an anecdotal recording, where he plays the piano and sings with his mother, Aspasia.
“And now a duet: Mikis with his mom,” the composer’s father, Giorgis Theodorakis, can be heard proudly announcing.
His son, Mikis, plays the piano softly singing the lyrics of Manos Eleftheriou, with his mother accompanying him: “The lad is miserable and I look him in the eyes…”. The motherly giggle of pleasure is faintly heard at the end, before they move on to the next one.
The few surviving recordings of Theodorakis and his family show the weakness the composer had towards his parents and his brother.
The tender audio document comes from the composer’s valuable and impressive archive, which he donated to the “Lilian Voudouri” Music Library of the “Friends of Music” Association since 1997.
