Spearheaded by the incomparable gastronomy of the place, nature, history and culture compose a palette of options that can lead the visitor to unforgettable experiential experiences
The local agencies have set the bar high for the tourism development of the Peloponnese, as based on the dynamics that are developing, as well as the new strategy they are formulating, the region is possible in the coming years to be at the top of the country’s heavy industry, as they estimate. Spearheaded by the incomparable gastronomy of the place, nature, history and culture compose a palette of options that can lead the visitor to unforgettable experiential experiences. Herbs, oil, wine, honey, truffles, cheeses, fruits, vegetables in their place, are the vehicles for a dream trip to the Peloponnesian land, which magically combines the villages, the mountains, the lakes, rivers and seas, where they are hosted 60% of the myths and monuments of Greek antiquity.
In particular, at the beach Stars of Arcadia, the 3rd stop of the 1st Peloponnese Food Stories – “Stories of people – tastes – culture” organized by the Region of Peloponnese on August 26, the occasion was given to meet key “players” of the Peloponnesian market, in the presence of a large number of visitors, in order to highlight this new strategy for the Peloponnese. Thus weaving a new tasty tourist narrative and combining all the virtues of the place.
Speaking to APE-MPE, Mr Regional Governor of Peloponnese Panagiotis Nikas he said characteristically: “We are implementing a specific strategy for the place. It is certain that in the coming years the Peloponnese will be the spearhead of the tourism development of our homeland. It offers a different type of tourism. A tourism of ecology, human relations, local culture, civilization and local tastes. Our purpose is to promote this other type of tourism. To promote our flavors and agricultural products, as all the goods of the Mediterranean diet are produced here. Beyond the gifts that God gave us: nature, the sea, the mountains, the rivers, the goal is to promote the efforts of the local people, in order to achieve significant social and economic results, as the Peloponnese is an area that it has everything.”
As Mr. Nikas said: “On behalf of the region, we will continue to promote our country with similar events both in coastal and mountainous areas. While we will support the real cultural events”.
“It is important for us to showcase our flavors, raw materials, people, history and place. Our goal is to expand our actions and make our treasures known throughout Greece”, said the mayor of North Kynouria George Kampylis.
Whereas, the value of synergies for the effective promotion of the cultural stock and the tourist product was proposed by the president of the Chamber of Arcadia Yannis Troupis, expressing his satisfaction for the cooperation of the chamber with the Region of Peloponnese, the Municipality of North Kynouria, the Association of Hoteliers of Eastern Arcadia and the Tourist Organization of Peloponnese, for the realization of the festival. “We have made sure that the assistance of our members takes place and fulfills its remunerative nature”, he said characteristically and made known the intention of the chamber in cooperation with the institutional actors and the business world to take initiatives for the further promotion of tourism and economic development of the region.
Speaking about the actions to be taken, h Deputy Regional Governor of Tourism, Anna Kalogeropoulou stated that: “Our goal is for the Peloponnese to offer the visitor an unforgettable experiential experience that he will take with him when he leaves. It is our duty to highlight and promote the Arcadian land and local products, which are our ambassadors,” he said. And he pointed out that: “Through the raw materials, our culture, identity and history are externalized. Our goal is to plan and implement actions through which all productive forces participate and local communities are actively involved.”
“The effort of all of us is focused on prolonging the tourist season”, the president of the Association of Hoteliers and Tourist Accommodation Owners of Eastern Arcadia, Vivian Manolesou, pointed out to APE-MBE. “We want to get away from the two-month summer and extend the season by 2-3 months initially, as that is entirely possible. Whereas, the ultimate goal is to achieve tourist flows throughout the year”, he said.
During the festival, a large number of visitors toured the exhibition of local products, attended thematic talks on wild mushrooms and Parnonas truffles, did honey and olive oil tasting, made delicious olive fritters and tasted cocktails with local wines and Arcadia herbs.
The cooking demonstrations by the local chefs with recipes exclusively focused on the Tsakonian eggplant, mushrooms and cheese products, were in the foreground, as well as the traditional recipes from the Women’s Cultural Associations with the popular “skasta” pasta or kratsounia, the cherry pie and plakopita.
“It has been established that gastronomy is one of the main criteria for choosing a tourist destination. While, in a percentage of over 44%, visitors direct spending towards culinary experiences. Thus, the effort is being made to develop culinary tourism in the Peloponnese, as there are all guarantees for the region to take the lead.” This was announced by the president of the Peloponnese Tourist Organization, Professor Konstantinos Marinakos.
He added, however, that: “This alone is not enough. A strategic plan is required that will develop the culinary product, create branding and marketing and above all be able to strengthen its human resources and skills. We believe in the cooperation of all relevant bodies because only in this way can added value, wealth and jobs be created for the region”, he stressed.
