It is expected to top $21 million
A rare dazzling pink diamond is being auctioned by Sotheby’s and is expected to fetch more than $21 million. At 11.15 carats, the ‘Williamson Pink Star’ is the second largest internally flawless fancy pink diamond ever to appear at auction. Sourced from a 32-carat rough diamond from the Williamson mine in Tanzania, it has the ideal cut that brings out its inner beauty.
“Pink diamonds are extremely rare,” Kristian Spofforth, Sotheby’s head of jewelry, told Reuters. That’s why he expects many bids for the gem at a stand-alone auction to be held on October 5 in Hong Kong.
“We have seen that during the quarantine and in general in the pandemic the interest in this rare stone has not stopped existing and I think it will have many bidders,” he said.
Before the auction, the ‘Williamson Pink Star’ will tour Dubai, Singapore and Taipei before arriving in Hong Kong.
