Comedian João Pimenta claims to have been a victim of racism at a TikTok event

by

Comedian João Pimenta, 32, known as Seu Pimenta, denounced, on his social media, an episode of racism he suffered during an event promoted by TikTok last week. He was even barred, despite being one of the planned attractions.

“TikTok event. I’m one of the main attractions, I’m going to do stand-up. Waiting for my turn by the side of the stage. I go to the bathroom, come back and I’m barred. I have the bracelet, but I’m still barred. Several people pass, just me barred “, reported the artist from Porta dos Fundos on Twitter.

Pimenta says he was still barred when it came time to perform. That’s when the “event staff” rescued him and apologized. “I put on an incredible show and at the end I give my message: ‘Do you want to be allies with black people? Start with the basics, treat us well'”.

Pimenta’s outburst was followed by another, by comedian Yuri Marçal, who also performed at the event and was stopped when he tried to “rescue” his friend. “Plus they took us out of the banner while we were taking a picture for the white artist to photograph. It never changes!” he added.

After denouncing what happened, Pimenta, who had agreed to perform without a fee, also vented about the criticism he received. Already this Saturday (3), he thanked for the support he also had. “Let me just forget about this for a bit, I answer all messages of support”.

Sought for comment on the episode, TikTok has yet to respond to the report. On Pimenta’s social media, the platform stated that it “does not agree with any form of discrimination or harassment, including based on race, color, sexual orientation or disability”.

“The reported case is being followed up with great seriousness and concern, it will be investigated and all the facts will be clarified”, he added, apologizing to Pimenta and Yuri and committing to “prevent facts like these from happening again”.
