British children’s animated TV series “Thomas the Tank Engine” will get its first character with autism.

Bruno the Brake Car, voiced by nine-year-old autistic actor Elliot Garcia, will begin appearing in episodes of ‘Thomas & Friends’ starting at the end of the month.

The nine-year-old was asked to play the character with the help of the National Autistic Society (NAS), according to the BBC.

Mattel, the American toy industry behind several TV hits, which acquired the “Thomas the Tank Engine” series in 2011, said in a statement that it “carefully edited the character of Bruno to ensure an accurate fictional representation of autism.”

The company explains that Bruno has a unique perspective on the world, he loves routes, routines, schedules and “when everything goes according to plan”.
