An incredible miracle of nature is the impressive church of Agia Theodora located in a beautiful ravine of Arcadia in the Peloponnese.

On the walls of the temple, 17 trees have grown without visible roots both externally and internally.

Every year thousands of pilgrims visit the chapel to worship and admire this unique complex, an inexplicable wonder of nature that dominates the peaceful landscape.

The small Byzantine church is located on the borders of the prefectures of Arcadia and Messinia, near the village of Vasta in Megalopolis.

All the years of Saint Theodora

It should be noted that the number of trees is not random, since according to religious tradition they correspond to the years of Saint Theodora.

According to one of the two stories that exist, Saint Theodora came from a poor family and since she was the eldest child, due to her family’s financial poverty, she was forced to disguise herself as a man and serve as a mercenary soldier. A young lady fell in love with her as Theodore, and since there was no response, the young lady accused her (him) of getting her pregnant. So it seems that he was led to torture by the girl’s family.

In both stories, Theodora who was particularly god-fearing, begged God, before her beheading, that the hairs of her head become trees, her blood a river to water them and the body of the temple.
