September 20 at Herodion – The pre-sale has started! Part of the proceeds will be allocated to the purposes of ALL TOGETHER WE CAN.
Sixty years of career in music and continuous creation completes this year Yannis Markopoulos. Our great composer, the standard-bearer of the movement of returning to the roots, the musician who with his vision cut through the musical things of the 70s and gave another identity to modern Greek music, celebrates this brilliant anniversary with a big concert at Herodius. The Cretan composer will present an anthology of the cycles of songs he stamped with his signature, focusing on history, myths and love as driving forces of spiritual upliftment and on the great poets approached by Elytis Seferis as well as younger ones he highlighted.
Her Tuesday, September 20 in Herodion well-loved songs, orchestral parts and some of the most important moments of the course of a living legend of modern Greece will resonate. With him on stage his favorite performers from today, George Dalaras, Marios Fragoulis, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Natassa Bofiliou, George Perris, Costas Triantafyllidis, George Nikiforou Zervakis and Vana Mani.
Having collaborated with the most important Greek performers for more than half a century, Yiannis Markopoulos turns to the new generation that will continue to pass on his music to the next, with these artists who represent for him the artistic ideal, serving the genuine and the authentic to music. The orchestra Palintonos Armonia, under the direction of Anastasios Symeonidis and the mixed choir of the Municipality of Athens under the direction of Stavros Berry will participate.
A creator with his own musical style, Yiannis Markopoulos (Heraklion, Crete, March 18, 1939) is one of the most important contemporary Greek composers. In 1962, with the music he signed for Nikos Koundouros’ film, Little Venuses, the composer won the award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival. The soundtrack makes the composer known worldwide, and Markopoulos is hailed for his musical talent from one end of the world to the other, from the Balkans and Europe, to America and Japan.
In the following decades, starting from the 70s, he will collaborate with major television, theater and film productions in Greece and abroad, while opening his own musical paths by putting into practice the movement back to the roots, including local Greek instruments such as the the lyre and the santouri sounding in unison within the symphony orchestra. This is how his unique style was born, which remains to this day unsurpassed and a beacon for those who want to discover different aspects of Greek music.
The Palintonos Harmonia Orchestra and the Mixed Choir of the Municipality of Athens participate
