Its laboratory confirmed cases amount to 69 monkey pox in Greece since the start of recording based on the data recorded until today 15 September, according to the weekly surveillance report of EODY. They are all men, with a median age of 36 years (19-61), of which 20 reported traveling abroad during the incubation period of the disease (29%).

As EODY points out, in May 2022 an increased number of monkeypox cases were recorded in non-endemic countries. In total, in Europe, until September 13, 2022 23,837 cases were recorded of the disease in 43 different countries.
Monkeypox is a viral infection first recognized in 1958. Since then, it has been occurring in tropical areas of West and Central Africa. It is transmitted through contact with wild animals and from human to human through close physical contact.
