Lucy Alves, 36, imposed a condition to accept to be the protagonist of “Travessia”, the next soap opera at 9 pm on Globo, scheduled to premiere on October 10. She would have to be able to reconcile the recordings with a project that was well under way and that already had “a reserved space in her heart”.
This is the series “Só Se For Por Amor”, which debuts in the Netflix catalog next Wednesday (21). In the plot, she plays Deusa, a singer who tries to conquer space in the phonographic market of Goiânia, while trying to make her love life not sink.
The similar description could generate comparisons with the recent “Rensga Hits”, Globoplay’s success, but the actress says that there are more differences than similarities. “I think that, despite having this background of very strong music, the two series are very different”, she says in an interview with F5.
“Our series focuses more on the stories and dreams of the characters”, he compares. “It’s a series that talks about love in its essence. And the music is there to complement, to pack these stories. From the little I’ve seen of ‘Rensga’, it is more focused on the phonographic market, showbiz is the theme. “
Even so, Deusa, the character of the actress, is the one who comes closest to the country music industry in the first season of the story. She has a band with her boyfriend, Tadeu (Filipe Bragança), and with other friends, but ends up living in a dilemma when she is invited by a great businessman to launch a solo career.
“The series talks about dreams”, he anticipates. “How far are you willing to go in search of what you want? The Deusa likes the band a lot and also has an affection for Tadeu and all the boys, but I think she also has this personal ambition, for growth, as well as Tadeu himself has it and that he will discover later.”
Lucy — who was first invited by creator Luciano Patrick to the project — admits she has a lot in common with the character. “Yes, we have many similarities,” she says. “This thing about leaving Paraíba in search of a dream, right? I also came to Rio de Janeiro to build my solo career, so we found ourselves in this place of being two very dreamy creatures.”
For 12 years, the actress was also part of a band, Clã Brasil, which brought together her father, mother and two sisters. However, the drama when each one went their own way was less than that of the character. “In my case, I think things were already more defined,” she explains. “In my band, everyone did something else, my sisters graduated and now live on medicine, it was their plan. And I understood that I wanted to go on and take greater flights.”
Despite having started in music, she says that she no longer knows if she is a singer who acts or if she became an actress who sings. “Oh, today I’m both”, she evaluates. “There’s none that are more or less important to me. I’ve always loved music because I’ve sung and played it since I was very young. Acting really came later, but I’ve enjoyed bringing characters to life more and more. I’ve discovered that what I I like to tell stories.”
Without being a name immediately connected to the sertanejo universe, Lucy says she loves the rhythm. “I’m an admirer of Brazilian music,” she says. “I like country music, I like forró. This universe is very close, isn’t it? Country music and forró talk a lot. There’s accordion, violas, guitars, this is very familiar to me. But the repertoire is very eclectic, with many accents.”
In the series, Deusa ends up embarking on a non-authorial career, with a lot of dominance of other people. “The series portrays a little bit of this side of the phonographic market, of these pop singers who influence a whole generation, not only Americans, but Brazilians as well”, she says. “Everyone wants to have a top career. Thank God she goes to an office that has plans that have nothing to do with what she wants to do.”
The actress lists the various divas of the song she used as a reference: Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé. “In this more pop moment of Deus, with choreography, pyrotechnics and everything else to differentiate what she did and that maybe beats stronger in her heart”, she says. “I loved it, it was wonderful to do.”
The fact that the series leaves the Rio-São Paulo axis, as well as the telenovela she will star in Globo, was also celebrated. “Wow, finally, right? Hallelujah, brothers”, jokes the actress. “Wow, nobody could stand it anymore, it’s always Rio, São Paulo, Rio, São Paulo. And even when there were productions that spoke of the Northeast, the cast was mostly from the Southeast. Thank God it changed, and I really believe it’s a change that there’s no turning back.”
