THE Julia Roberts broke the ‘glass ceiling’ for top female movie stars when she demanded $20 million for her role in the 2000 film ‘Erin Brockovich.’ like Tom Cruise or Tom Hanks, who dominated the box office in the 90s with Roberts.

The American actress participated on Saturday in a discussion as part of the events History Talks organized by A+E Networks and the History Channel in Washington.

Panel moderator Gayle King asked Julia Roberts about the negotiating tactics she uses to win equal pay.

The actress replied that her nature is not to complain, but to say: “Let’s get serious. Let’s be fair.”

Roberts acknowledged that she earned her fee by scoring hits such as Pretty Woman, Notting Hill and My Best Friend’s Wedding.

“When I work, I work really hard,” Roberts said. “I am ready. I’m on time. I’m prepared. I’m happy. I’m in,” the actress said, noting that she wants to know what her salary will be.

During their conversation, Roberts and King also discussed the challenges women face in speaking out, particularly in wage agreements. Julia Roberts claimed she never worried about being punished for standing up for herself.

“I speak openly and say what’s on my mind. I try to be careful with my words,” the actress said.
