Paulo Ricardo disapproves of the use of image in the campaign and declares his vote for Lula

After stating that it is frustrating to choose between two former presidents, singer Paulo Ricardo, 60, declared his vote for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in these elections and even made the “L” with Lula’s fingers in video published on social networks, this Tuesday (27).

The singer also took the opportunity to comment on a video of him from 2018, which was edited and which is circulating on social networks. Paulo Ricardo claims that at the time he asked the public who they would vote for, but the video was edited to look like it is supporting a “certain candidate” – without mentioning by name that it was used by the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) campaign.

“At the time, I made a video vehemently denying this interpretation, but now I feel obliged once again to come here and talk to you, clarify this situation once and for all,” he said.

Paulo Ricardo explained that the song “Revoluções por Minuto” was censored by President José Sarney’s New Republic. “In [a música] ‘Alvorada Voraz’ I clearly stand against the military dictatorship, and in the second version of 2002 I was sued by Paulo Maluf.”

The singer also highlighted that one of his biggest hits of his career is the version of “London, London”, a song of exile by Caetano Veloso during the dictatorship. “In my last song “Herói Made Brasil” I make my political position clear.”

The artist also said that he does not believe in “myths or prophets”, but only in love, poets and democracy. He defended that it is necessary to exorcise the bloodsucking vampires from the palaces in Brasília and hypocrisy at the polls.

“Despite recognizing and respecting all kinds of opinions, with the greatest humility, precisely for this reason, today, in 2022, my vote is for freedom and democracy”, he said, making the “L” of Lula with his fingers.
