Frota, Thiago Gagliasso, Antonia Fontenelle: See celebrities who were elected and those who were not

by

Being famous doesn’t guarantee a vote. At least that’s what the 2022 election, held this Sunday (2), showed, in which most celebrities who applied for public office ended up not receiving enough votes to get elected.

Few have managed to transform the fan base into voters, as is the case with Romário (PL), a senator re-elected from Rio de Janeiro with more than 2.3 million votes. The former soccer player may eventually meet in Brasilia with another former athlete, Maurício Souza, who made a name for himself in the Brazilian volleyball team. He was elected federal deputy for Minas Gerais, also for the PL.

Mario Frias, former heartthrob of soap operas on Globo and protagonist of “Malhação” between 1999 and 2001, is another who managed to get elected to the Chamber of Deputies. He will take one of the 17 seats that the PL won for São Paulo, as well as Tiririca, who had just over 71,000 votes (far from the 1.3 million in 2010, when he was the most voted deputy).

In the legislative assemblies, there were also few celebrities of national repercussion elected. In Rio de Janeiro, the highlight is actor Thiago Gagliasso (PL), who was elected state deputy. That’s not even counting the vote of brother Bruno Gagliasso, as the two publicly disagree when it comes to politics.

In São Paulo, singer-songwriter Leci Brandão received more than 90,000 votes and will have one of the 11 seats in the Brazil Federation of Hope, which brings together the PT, PV and PC do B. The latter is the party of the state deputy , re-elected for the fourth time.

The non-elected are far more numerous. Known by sports lovers, Leila do Vôlei (PDT-DF) was in 5th place in the dispute for the government of the Federal District. She ended up with just 4.81% of the vote, but is expected to return to the senator post, from which she had been licensed to run in the elections.

There were also no seats in the Chamber of Deputies names known to the public such as actor Felipe Folgosi (PL-SP), media personality Renata Banhara (Republicans-SP) and fighter Wanderlei Silva (PP-PR). Stars from the porn world, such as Kid Bengala (União Brasil-SP) and Elisa Sanches (Patriota-RJ), also did not win seats in Brasília.

The experience of the walls of Big Brother Brasil (Globo) was also not enough to guarantee popular support for three ex-BBBs who were trying to enter politics. Adrilles Jorge (PTB-SP), Ariadna Arantes (PSB-SP) or Marcos Harter (Podemos-MT) were not elected. The latter had just over 1,000 votes, far less than he managed to garner on the reality show.

Even without being elected this Sunday, some celebrities may end up winning office later on. This is because many remained as substitutes for those elected in their states. This was the case of actress Lucélia Santos (PSB-RJ), digital influencer Antonia Fontenelle (Republicanos-RJ) and pastor Márcio Poncio (Pros-RJ).

For Rio de Janeiro, ex-player Bebeto (PSD), coach Joel Santana (Pros), ex-paquita Andrea Sorvetão (Republicans), ex-model Marinara Costa (PL), as well as singer and businesswoman Verônica Costa (PL), known as Mãe Loira do Funk. In the Federal District, the ex-blonde of Tchan Silmara Miranda (Republicans) may be called for a vacancy that will be vacant in the future.

In the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, Alexandre Frota (PSDB) failed to be elected state deputy, as well as the actor and comedian Carlinhos Aguiar (PL), known for the SBT programs. In Rio de Janeiro, actors André Gonçalves (PV) and Mario Gomes (Republicans) were also only substitutes, as well as digital influencer Sarah Poncio (Pros).
