Titled event “Micrasia: As long as I remember you, you live!” co-organized by the Holy Synod and the Region of Attica, at the Panathenaic Stadium, on Saturday, October 8 (7:30 p.m.), on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Disaster.

The tribute has the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the urban non-profit cultural and social welfare project company “AEGEAS AMKE” of the Athanasiou and Marina Martinou family and will be symbolically participated by 1,922 children and young people, members of 55 choirs and traditional dance groups from Metropolises. Entry will be free, with tickets from the website ticketservices.gr

The above was mentioned during an interview by the regional governor of Attica, Giorgos Patoulis, the president of the Synodal Committee on Christian education and youth, metropolitan of Sidirokastro, Mr. Makarios, and the chief secretary of the Holy Synod, bishop of Oreon, Mr. Filotheos. The interview was attended by the Deputy Governor of Finance N. Peppas, the conductor of the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra G. Aravidis, the director of the Greek Music Orchestra of the Church of Greece, G. Demelis, conductors of the Music Ensembles and choirs, representatives of the dance ensembles, as well as the artists Areti Ketime and Sofia Manou. They also participate in the evening Dimitris Bassis, and Thanasis Viskadurakis as the narrator.

THE regional governor G. Patoulis, in his presentation he pointed out that “with this concert we honor the insurmountable culture of Asia Minor and contribute to keep the collective memory alive”.

Referring to the title of the event “Little Asia Lives”, he pointed out that it captures the feeling of all Hellenism for our lost, but not forgotten, ancestral homes. “The Church of Greece is a key pillar for the collective historical memory to remain alive forever, for faith and hope to remain unquenched, even in the most difficult circumstances. The sacrifice of the National Martyr Chrysostomos of Smyrna, will forever show us all the way of honor and duty, highlighting at the same time the brutal face of the perpetrators of this crime against humanity, which even today – after 100 years – remains unpunished. After the disaster, the land of Attica opened its arms and became the second home of most Asia Minors, who built their new lives here, through difficulties and pain. The Greeks of Asia Minor, together with their few possessions, brought here their most valuable property: their unsurpassed culture, which for three thousand years “constituted the bridge between West and East. A valuable asset of the world’s cultural heritage, which greatly shaped our modern culture. We will honor this culture on October 8…” said Mr. Patoulis, among other things.
