A very interesting and constructive meeting with the great academic and Rector of the University of Europe, Mrs. Eleni Glykatzi-Arveler, had the Member of Parliament for Achaia of the New Democracy, Mrs. Christina Alexopoulou.
The discussion covered a wide range of current issues, focusing on education and culture.
Ms. Arveler praised the efforts of the Greek Government and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to our country, emphasizing to Ms. Alexopoulou that the repatriation of the Marbles to Athens is a fair request, while at the same time agreeing with the position of the Achaean MP that this request is related to the concepts of Culture and Justice.
In fact, the Greek University student pointed out to Ms. Alexopoulou the important role that the Greek Parliament can play, taking the initiative to promote the relevant request in cooperation with the respective British Parliament.
Ms Arveler also raised the issue of the Delphi Academy of European Studies, the establishment of which was a grand vision of the President of the European Cultural Center of Delphi. As he characteristically said, although in the past he had submitted a series of proposals and relevant files to the Greek governments for the promotion of this idea, he was never listened to and asked Ms. Alexopoulou to lead as a member of the Greek Parliament and the Standing Committee on Education, so that further interdisciplinary seminars, conferences and top-level lectures in the fields of humanities and social sciences.
It is worth noting that Mrs. Arveler also proposed to the Member of Parliament the idea for the convergence of all the Education Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of the EU Member States, with a meeting point for our country, in order to discuss a broad agenda of issues related to current and future political, social and cultural developments in Europe and worldwide.
Mrs. Alexopoulou’s constructive meeting with the great Greek Byzantine historian and first female Rector of the Sorbonne University, ended with the Member of Parliament for Achaia expressing her gratitude to Mrs. Arveler for her invaluable and multifaceted work. reiterating its full support for the actions of the European Cultural Center of Delphi.
