The actor said, among other things, that he never took it personally when casting directors passed him over to hire Leonardo DiCaprio
THE Christian Bale expresses his gratitude to Leonardo di Caprio, which – unwittingly – played a role in his career. The actor attributed DiCaprio’s failure to land major film roles to his own ability to audition and land those roles!
“It doesn’t matter what anyone tells you. It doesn’t matter how friendly you are with the directors. All these people I’ve worked with many times, they all offered each of these roles to him first,” Christian Bale joked in an interview with “GQ.”
“So thank you, Leo, because he literally chooses everything he does,” Bale concluded. “And good for him, he’s amazing.”
Bale has said, among other things, that he never took it personally when casting directors passed him over to hire Leonardo DiCaprio, despite the fact that others in his position probably wouldn’t have done the same…
“No, do you know how grateful I am? And it does everything wonderfully. “Almost everyone who is a similar age to him in Hollywood owes their career to whatever project he spends on,” he revealed.
The role of yuppie serial killer Patrick Bateman in the 2000 horror film American Psycho was a role that DiCaprio apparently turned down. Bale was able to land the role, which would later launch his career, when DiCaprio ultimately decided to walk out of the film.
“They had paid me the minimum they were legally allowed to pay me,” he pointed out. “I remember one time I was sitting in the makeup trailer and the makeup artists were laughing at me because I was paid less than them.”
Aside from the film’s director, Mary Harron, Bale claimed that: “Nobody wanted me to do the part at the time, which resulted in me getting paid less. They said they would only make the film if they could pay me that amount.”
