Jolie and Pitt: The actress’s old email shows details of the end of the marriage

by

An emotional email written by actress Angelina Jolie, 47, to her ex-husband, actor Brad Pitt, 58, was revealed by She Knows. The message, from January 2021, shows that the problems in the actors’ marriage began long before the press reported the couple’s crisis.

The email comes to light amid the couple’s legal battle after the actress sold her stake in Chateau Miraval Winery in France to a Russian oligarch without consulting Pitt, who was her partner. Actress Joel begins the email by saying she was writing what she feels to not get emotional and details her decision to sell the property. “It’s the place where we brought the twins home and where we got married because of a plaque in my mother’s memory.”

The actress said that the property marks “the beginning of the end of the family” and that she could not have been involved in an alcohol-based business when the actor’s problems with alcoholism took a toll on the family.

“A place that held the promise of what could be and where I thought I would grow old. Even now it’s impossible to write this without crying. I will cherish my memories of what it was a decade ago,” she wrote.

She complained that Pitt was reckless in spending the money on the winery and that she would not have approved his decisions had she been consulted. “[Fui] hampered by decisions that have been made that show no interest in sharing the business or fundamentally transforming it into something that would be healthier for our children.”

The actress suggested two alternatives for the good of the family that would be the definitive sale of the winery – which would fully support him – or his part in society to get away from a difficult and painful chapter of the house’s life. “The alternative is a full purchase of my share of the property and business by you, the Perrin family or your associates,” wrote the actress, who eventually sold the property to a Russian oligarch.

Pitt sued Jolie, claiming she is vindictive and betrayed him by secretly selling his stake in the winery. The two bought Chateau Miraval in Correns, France, in 2008. Brad says he’s invested a lot of money and time in the winery over the years, although he acknowledges that Angelina shelled out 40% of the $28.4 million purchase price (about BRL 150 million).
