National Library of Greece: Angelos Sikelianos (1884-1951)

The National Library of Greece honors Angelos Sikelianos on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of his death in the “Speech 9” cycle, curated by the President of the Board of Trustees of the National Library of Greece, Mr. Stavros Zoumboulakis. The event entitled Angelos Sikelianos (1884-1951) will take place on Monday, December 20, 2021, 19:00 to 21:00, at the Book Tower of the National Library of Greece, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Admission is free for the public in order of priority upon arrival.

The National Library of Greece returns to the study of the work of Angelos Sikelianos following the event organized in June 2017 and the completion of one hundred years since the first edition of “Mother God”, with the sole purpose of stimulating reading interest in his study of his work.

The capacity of the room is 150 people and order of priority will be observed upon arrival.
Upon entering the National Library of Greece, all participants over 12 years of age will be asked:

  • vaccination certificate or
  • disease certificate
  • The use of a mask is mandatory for the entire period of stay in the premises of EBE.

The Sikelianos Archive of the National Library of Greece is part of the Philological Archive and includes letters, diaries, notes and drawings of works by Angelos Sikelianos. Among them, the “Mount Athos Diary”, a notebook where the poet recorded his impressions from the pilgrimage to Mount Athos that he had made with Kazantzakis from November 15 to December 25, 1914. EBE acquired the Archive in September 1973 , by “Mrs. Annan, widow of Angelos Sikelianos “, as it is written in the Acquisition Book of the Department of Manuscripts and Uniforms.
