Bill Murray Not Funny Anymore: Actor Destroys His Career Amid Harassment Allegations

The new stories about Murray’s behavior coincided with the publication of his settlement with an assistant he harassed on the set of his latest film

His jokes Bill Murray are no longer funny… Last week, there were complaints from his former co-stars about the famous actor.

The new stories about Murray’s behavior coincided with the publication of his settlement with an assistant who harassed him on the set of his latest film, “Being Mortal,” production of which was temporarily halted to investigate the allegation.

The suspension came on April 15, the same day an employee told the film’s production company, Searchlight Pictures, that Murray had touched her inappropriately. After investigating the events, the company (a Disney subsidiary) sent a letter to all crew members the following week. The letter concluded: “After reviewing the conditions, it has been determined that production cannot continue at this time.”

On Monday, October 10, the website “Puck” broke the news that Murray paid a Being Mortal crew production assistant a $100,000 settlement after he tried to kiss and touch her. The website quoted a source from the crew who described her colleague as horrified, sexually harassed by Murray.

In April, a witness told Page Six that he “put his arm around a woman, touched her hair, pulled her ponytail, but always in a comical way. It’s a fine line and everyone loves Bill, but while his behavior is not illegal, some women felt uncomfortable and it crossed a line.”

In May, Murray defended himself in an interview with NBC: “We had a difference of opinion – I had a difference of opinion with a woman that I work with. I did something that I thought was funny and they didn’t take it that way… You know, what I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and times change, so it’s important for me to understand that.” Indeed, Murray still behaves as he did half a century ago, both jokingly and professionally: he has no agent or assistant to contact or hire. One can only find the actor through voicemail on his landline.

Many people in Hollywood circles believe that the production of “Being Mortal” will be stopped for good. It’s cheaper for Disney to trash the movie.

For decades, Murray has been known for his tardiness as well as his irascible and volatile personality. Social media and the legend of Bill Murray turned into videos and online jokes about the comedian: stealing fries from a stranger’s bag while waiting to cross the street, making surprise appearances at college parties to wash dishes, delivering pizzas, he reached into passersby’s pockets to hand out money, he was arrested for driving a golf cart in Stockholm in the early hours… His fans loved him. But it wasn’t and isn’t all fun.

Aside from several independent productions and an appearance in the “Ghostbusters” reboot, most of the comedian’s work in recent years has come from three directors with whom he’s very close: Sofia Coppola, Jim Jarmusch and Wes Anderson. The actor has no future projects planned following these allegations. Looks like his past misdeeds caught up with him…
