Police neuropsychologist Maude Christopher lives alone, isolated in the hills of Los Angeles. Lately, she has been obsessed, to the point of obsession, with an unprecedented, inscrutable case that she has undertaken.

A paranoid man, unidentified, carries out serial attacks on the unsuspecting women of the town, in a way that is terrifyingly paradoxical. He doesn’t kill them. He’s not in a hurry. He seduces his victims, leads them voluntarily to bed and finally immobilizes them with a lobotomy. Turning them into his eternal, useless toys.

Maud is confronted with the brutality of these crimes almost daily. She is the one who has taken care of his victims.

On an otherwise quiet evening, a likeable young man knocks on her door, asking for some help, as he’s stranded at her place because his bike broke down.

The famous psychological thriller “Playmaker”, written in 1984 by the Hollywood star Gardner McKay, first in the form of a best-selling novel and then as a popular play, is staged for the first time in Greece, directed by Alexander Cohen and starring Rafika Sawis and George Partalidis.

A dramatic piece of high intensity, which has been loved and highly praised by audiences and critics in all the cities of the world where it has been performed. This is the work that fascinated one of the most important American directors of the last decades, Brian De Palma, and in recent years there has been talk of a film adaptation of the novel starring Colin Firth.

They wrote about the project

“Deeply disturbing and utterly timely. A classic mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to guess…”
All Things Considered, National Public Radio

“A tremendously powerful work”
The Washington Post

“Excellent. Immersive. Exciting. The most exciting drama of the year. It brings theater back to what theater means”
LA Herald Examiner

“This has got to be the most intense game between a man and a woman ever written.”

“A writing wrought by a very steely spirit.”
The Daily Express

“This play by Gardner McKay is chilling…it literally froze my blood.”
The Daily Mail

Author’s note
If this work is about anything, it’s our immense ability to manipulate each other. The play talks about our wonderful gift of lying. It speaks of the awesome power of this gift we have been given. It speaks to our ability to believe any truth as long as it suits us. The play speaks to our tremendous power to forgive and our need to move on. It speaks to the compromise we are prepared to make, our incredible willingness to sleep with our executioner. It’s basically about our moral iniquity: a crime is only a crime if it doesn’t happen to us. If it happens to someone else, we just turn the page.
