The actor Luca Marinelli was cast in the lead role as Benito Mussolini in Joe Wright’s upcoming biopic series for Sky.
As Variety revealed last month, Wright, who recently wrapped promotion for his film Cyrano, is set to direct the series that chronicles Mussolini’s rise to power against the backdrop of fascism and World War II.
Wright also directed the Winston Churchill drama Darkest Hour, which earned Gary Oldman an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the British prime minister from 1940-45 and 1951-55.
The series “M. Son of the Century’ is based on the book by Antonio Scurati and is set to begin production at Cinecittà Studios in Italy in the coming weeks. Wright will direct all eight episodes.
