Kim Kardashian goes to court to stay single before divorce

Businesswoman and socialite Kim Kardashian West, 40, has filed to be legally single and have her maiden name restored while rapper Kanye West, 44, continues to divorce proceedings.

Kim filed the legal documents this Friday (10) with a request that would legally make her a single woman if signed by a judge, according to TMZ. Hours before West had asked her to resume the marriage.

Although Kim has her businesses like KKW Beauty and KKW fragrance using her married initials, she is more interested in having her maiden name restored, which means giving up her West name.

The legal move is basically asking the judge to separate child custody, property, and financial implications from actual marital status. She hired lawyer Laura Wasser, who worked with many other famous clients.

More than anything, the request allows anyone who is getting divorced to continue their single life and discuss other issues at a different time.

West has yet to comment on the lawsuit, not even to say if he knew about it before the show where he asked Kim to come back to him. The rapper seemed happy to be reunited with Drake, 35, in the behind-the-scenes footage of the show as they proved their age-old feud was over.

The last public plea for Kim to take him back didn’t seem to work. A source told PEOPLE on Friday that the socialite has changed, but she knows it’s hard for West to deal with. She’s also not surprised that he’s publicly begging her to come back to him. She’s just trying to be respectful.

A few weeks ago, West made a similar public appeal saying that God will reunite him with his ex-wife Kim, as he admitted he made mistakes in his marriage. He said this while serving meals at the Los Angeles Thanksgiving Mission.

Kim and West were married at Forte di Belvedere in Florence in 2014. Kim filed for divorce in February of this year and joint legal and physical custody of her four young children. It has been alleged that neither will contest the prenuptial agreement.
